New free directory and database of radio stations on FM and AM in Asia

Radio Asia

Free directory and database of radio stations on FM and AM in Asia.

Directory of FM radio stations

Directory of AM radio stations on medium wave, tropical bands and shortwave

Hello radio listeners and enthusiasts, this free radio station directory shows quick & simple country by country radio station listings for countries in Asia, it enables a detailed look at national networks, regional and local radio stations. It often shows whenever possible detailed transmitter location data including map links to the transmitter sites, radio station website links are included as well. Our radio stations directory can be used as a reference or tool to identify or locate a certain radio station. The AM section shows a countrywide listing of reported or presumably active stations on longwave, mediumwave and shortwave, (closed or inactive, planned stations do not show up on the list, they are visible when logging in to the main FMLIST or MWLIST database). The FM section shows regional listings sorted by provinces or states, city or metro area listings are shown listing FM stations up to 160 km 100 miles around a city or larger town. Especially concerning the FM station section, just in case you happen see a new RDS radio station name on your radio display while tuning through your local FM band, please let us know, we are always interested in finding new RDS data as this is a very convenient way to locate or identify a radio station. Many efforts were undertaken in this database to provide as much detail as possible in our listings, if however any data or any weblinks are missing or any new radio stations are planned or launched, please report them to us.

This website is powered by the FMLIST & MWLIST database sites, as a free service for all radio enthusiasts, DXers and amateur radio operators (HAM).

Summary of Shortwave cuts from 1st Jan 2013

Below is a summary of various SW and MW transmitter closures which are are mostly due to take effect from 1 January. This is summarised from reports which will be in January Communication (DX News and Medium Wave Report):

Croatia
Voice of Croatia is dropping SW, but continuing on MW 1134 kHz

Germany
Voice of Russia is dropping MW relays on 630 (Königslutter/Schepau), 1323 (Wachenbrunn), and 1431 (Dresden Wilsdruff). Only remaining German relay freq is 693 kHz (Berlin Zehlendorf)

Hungary
MR6 Régió Rádió closed on 22 December. A new station Radio Danko is using former MR6 frequencies of 1116, 1251, 1350 kHz with Hungarian and gipsy folk music and rural news (similar to Antena Satelor in Romania).

Norway
NRK Rost 675 kHz is closing - a planned closure announced some time ago.

Russia
-St Petersburg SW/MW site is closing (including MW 1494 kHz)
-Samara SW site is also reported to be closing.
-Mayak is closing on MW/LW throughout Russia
-Voice of Russia is reducing some of its SW/MW output across its
language services following budget cuts.

St Helena
Radio St Helena (MW 1548 kHz) closed on Christmas Day. It will be replaced by St Helena Broadcasting Corp on FM only.

Zambia
CVC 1Africa is dropping SW. (Had been scheduled on 13590 at 0600-2200 but 13590 has not been heard for several days, I suspect it has already been switched off)

The above is fairly grim news for short wave, though on the positive side there have been a couple of stations reactivating on SW recently - Radio Uganda on 4976 kHz and Bangladesh reactivated with a new SW transmitter earlier this year.

"Wavescan" CALLING AFRICA !

"Focus on Africa"

During the entire coming year, 2013, programming in the AWR DX program, "Wavescan", will be concentrated upon the radio broadcasting scene on the continent of Africa, including nearby islands and the Middle East. Tentative planning for the scheduling of radio features includes a historic rundown of an African radio station, large or small, as the the main opening topic every 3rd week. As follow on topics in the weekly half hour program, many additional African features will be presented, including interviews and on-the-spot recordings made by the program producer, Jeff White of Radio Miami International WRMI in Florida.

All of the African information that will be presented on air in "Wavescan" throughout the year 2013 will be under the title, "Focus on Africa", and the purpose for this year long emphasis is to encourage
the development of international radio broadcasting and shortwave listening throughout the African arena. The international DX program, "Wavescan" is researched and written in Indianapolis and produced by Jeff White in the studios of shortwave WRMI in Miami.

We here at "Wavescan" always welcome reception reports from our listeners, and we receive listener mail from some 100 countries throughout the world. All reception reports are verified with our QSL
cards through the postal system, and of course, some form of return postage is always appreciated.

In particular, we would welcome reception reports from listeners living in continental Africa and nearby areas. The international DX program "Wavescan" is the current name for the original DX program, "Radio Monitors International" that was launched from the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation in 1975, as part of the shortwave scheduling of Adventist World Radio.

Joint statement by seven international broadcasters

The following joint statement has been issued by seven international broadcasters, including the BBC.

We, the representatives of Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France (AEF), Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) [Australia], British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) [United Kingdom], Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) [US], Deutsche Welle (DW) [Germany], Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) [Japan] and Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW), have met in Berlin to discuss common concerns.

We find international journalism is facing unprecedented challenges from countries that seek to deny their own citizens access to information from outside their borders in violation of Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states:

"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."

We call upon the world's nations to strengthen their commitment to Article 19 and to support expanded opportunities to share information across borders through digital and mobile technologies.

Yet we note with dismay that certain governments continue to control the flow of information. For example, China routinely blocks the Web and social media sites of our broadcasters and jams our shortwave signals, or Iran and Syria interfere with the satellite signals that carry our programs. Governments in Eurasia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America also seek to control what their own citizens can see, hear and read.

Many of these actions, including intentional jamming of satellites, violate international regulations. We condemn them without reservation.

We also call attention to troubling new challenges to free expression. Some governments are seeking to enact far-reaching telecommunications regulations to stymie free speech.

At the World Conference on International Telecommunication (WICT) in Dubai, representatives of the world's nations have considered telecommunications rules that might explicitly apply to the Internet for the first time.

We cast a wary eye on such efforts to control the Internet, and we denounce efforts to identify and track Internet users in order to stifle free expression, inquiry and political activity.

We have agreed to increase, whenever possible, our support for efforts to circumvent Web censorship through the use of new and innovative hardware and software tools. We also agreed to increase our advocacy for Internet freedom.

Dear Listeners and Friends of IRRS-Shortwave,

It's the time of the year when we are usually summing up our activities, and deciding whether and how to follow up in the next. At the end of the year we will be having our annual board meeting, but I
can anticipate that we will continue broadcasting on Shortwave, focusing even more to far away countries, besides our usual targets in Europe, North Africa and Middle East.

The program is a 15 minute program in French and English specifically created for Shortwave about issues related to Europe and interesting to our European audience. I will not reveal the name just now, just listen and send your reception report directly to the address that you hear on the air. They also QSL directly.

Lastly if you have not sent a reception report for our newly started Medium Wave broadcasts, we will sending out a special QSL card for reception reports received ONLY for broadcasts in the following time slots, as heard ONLY until Dec. 31, 2012:

- 06:00-07:00 UTC (07:00-08:00 CET) on 1368 kHz MW

Please do write us, tell us about our content, what you like and you do not like, besides technical quality, and send your email or letter to:

- email: reports@nexus.org - or:
- by snail mail to: IRRS, PO Box 10980, I-20110 Milano, Italy

All letters and comments are greatly appreciated, and help demonstrating to our broadcasters that Shortwave is still viable, and really help us to stay on the air.

During the Christmas and New Year break will be working on a new system to send QSL cards almost in real time. All those who sent a reception report recently will be notified by email on how to receive our new QSL card.

In the meantime, have a wonderful Christmas time with your families, and a very Happy new year 2013 from all of us here in Milano.

UN Concerned Over DR Congo Jamming Radio Okapi Transmissions

The United Nations on Monday expressed concerns over a recent decision by the media-monitoring authority in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to jam signals of the U.N.-backed Radio Okapi amid an ongoing armed rebellion in the country's east.

The Congolese government suspended transmissions by Radio Okapi on November 30 after the broadcaster failed to submit its program schedule to the Superior Audiovisual and Communications Council (CSAC), which is mandatory under the country's legal system.
